Head Choral Director - Westside High School
Position Summary:
The Westside High School Choral Director is responsible for developing, coordinating, and directing a comprehensive and tradition rich choral music program that fosters student growth in vocal music education and performance. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop a love for music while maintaining high standards of artistic excellence. This role includes teaching vocal techniques, and performance skills, as well as organizing and directing performances, competitions, and community events.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Duties:
- Teach choral music classes, including beginning, intermediate, and advanced choirs, as well as specialized ensembles.
- Instruct students in vocal technique, sight-reading, and ear training.
- Develop and implement a curriculum that aligns with state and district standards for vocal music education.
- Select and prepare a diverse repertoire appropriate for student skill levels and cultural enrichment.
Performance Leadership:
- Direct and conduct choral performances, including concerts, school assemblies, and community events.
- Organize participation in district, state, and national choral festivals and competitions.
- Lead nationally recognized show choir programs (ATSC and Warrior Express)
- Collaborate with other school departments for interdisciplinary projects or events.
Program Management:
- Plan and coordinate rehearsals, auditions, and performance schedules for all choral programs.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and program participation.
- Manage program budgets and procure vocal music, supplies, and equipment as needed.
- Oversee the maintenance and care of vocal music department resources.
Student Development:
- Inspire students to develop their vocal musical talents and confidence.
- Provide mentorship and guidance for students interested in pursuing vocal music professionally.
- Foster an inclusive, positive, and disciplined environment that supports individual and ensemble growth.
Community Engagement:
- Build relationships with parents, school staff, and the local community to promote the choral program.
- Organize fundraising events to support program activities and student opportunities.
- Serve as an advocate for the arts within the school and the broader community.
Professional Development:
- Stay updated on current trends and best practices in vocal music education and choral performance.
- Attend professional development workshops, conferences, and music educator meetings.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree required. Must possess at all times during employment a valid Nebraska teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by NDE Rule 10.
