Building Services Job Description

 

POSITION:                Carpenter – District Wide (Category VI)       

                                    Full-Time – 12 months per year

                                    Approx. Shift Time:  Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

 

SUPERVISOR:        Director of Building Services

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five years’ verifiable experience as a commercial building maintenance carpenter
  • Five years’ verifiable experience: installing drywall, concrete flatwork, framing

      carpentry, flooring installation, laminate counters, and painting/staining

  • Verifiable experience installing and repairing building hardware, including locks & doors
  • Ability to read working drawings & plans, and ability to create simple drawings
  • Self-starter capable of planning, implementing, and evaluating carpentry repair and/or

      projects

  • Understand, communicate and implement oral and written instructions
  • Successful completion of locksmith course preferred but not required
  • Ability to climb ladders to a distance of 30 feet while carrying tools & supplies weighing

      up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to lift and carry 70 lbs. to a distance of 50 feet or more
  • Physically able to perform tasks under working conditions which require walking,

     standing, lifting, carrying, and bending over for long periods of time

  • Ability to work with or without supervision, follow directions, operate work order system,

      etc.

  • Must be flexible and willing to adjust quickly to the changing demands of a busy rural/

      urban school district

  • Must work well with the public, staff, students, supervisors, etc.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Remodel, repair, modify or construct building facilities, furniture, cabinets, etc.
  • Install, repair, and maintain building hardware and locks
  • Operate forklift, skid loader, tractors and miscellaneous construction equipment
  • Plan and manage assigned projects around classroom schedules, etc.
  • Purchase building materials, supplies and equipment as needed
  • Prepare estimates as needed
  • Maintain adequate inventory of building and maintenance supplies
  • Work with other district staff on door hardware, locksmith duties, etc.
  • Responsible for the overall cleanliness, appearance, and maintenance of assigned work

      areas

  • Snow removal using a truck mounted snow plow, and able to use a snow blower & snow

      shovel (overtime is at times required to complete this task)

  • Perform all tasks in a safe manner in compliance with local, state and federal regulations
  • All other duties as assigned
