Special Education Facilitator - District Wide

 

Job Summary: The Special Education Facilitator is instrumental in fostering high-quality, evidence-based special education practices across the District. This position is dedicated to supporting teachers in creating and implementing specialized instruction and interventions that align to a student’s IEP and promoting access to the general education environment. 

 

This position is initially funded through a grant. Please note that, upon conclusion of the grant funding, the nature of the role may evolve or transition. Future employment opportunities or position changes will depend on funding availability, organizational needs, and project outcomes.

 

Department: Teaching and Learning—Special Services

 

Direct Accountability:  Director of Special Services

 

Education Level and Certification: Special Education certification through the Nebraska Department of Education. Bachelor’s degree required, Masters Degree preferred.

 

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of previous experience in special education with students who have complex learning, specialized programming, and/or behavioral needs. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  1. Work collaboratively with special education and general education teachers to plan and develop instructional strategies that meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
  2. Provide ongoing professional development opportunities for teachers to enhance their understanding of special education best practices, inclusion strategies, and evidence-based instructional methods.
  3. Offer individualized support to teachers by observing their classroom practices, providing constructive feedback, and assisting in the development of tailored instructional plans for students with disabilities.
  4. Identify and share relevant instructional resources, behavioral strategies, materials, and technologies that can support teachers in delivering effective instruction to students with disabilities.
  5. Assist teachers in analyzing student performance data, including assessments and progress monitoring, to inform instructional decision-making and develop targeted interventions.
  6. Support the implementation of inclusive practices within classrooms, fostering environments that accommodate the diverse needs of students with disabilities alongside their peers.
  7. Demonstrate effective teaching strategies and instructional methods, serving as a model for teachers to observe and learn from.
  8. Facilitate collaboration between special education teachers, general education teachers, and other specialists (e.g., speech language pathologists, occupational therapists) to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive approach to student support.
  9. Stay informed on the latest research, trends, and developments in special education policy, practice and legal issues to ensure that teachers receive the most up-to-date and relevant support.
  10. Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities within the school community and help create a supportive and inclusive culture that values diversity.
  11. Assist teachers in problem-solving when challenges arise in implementing instructional strategies for students with disabilities, offering guidance and alternative approaches.
  12. Establish a constructive feedback mechanism that encourages open communication between teachers and the instructional coach, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

 

Working Conditions: General education classroom, special education environments, and community settings. Position requires travel between sites in a personal vehicle within the regular workday.
