Job Title: 2024-2025 Bilingual Liaison - Spanish 

 

REPORTS TO: Dual: Director of Student Services and Coordinator of EL 

 

LOCATION: As Assigned by WCS Administration, homebase: ABC Building 

 

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 10 Month, hourly / 6 hours per day

 

 

 

PURPOSE:  The Bilingual Liaison serves as a liaison between students, parents, schools, and community partners to ensure a high-quality learning experience that prepares students for success in college, career and life. This role is designed to facilitate effective communication, bridge cultural gaps, and ensure equitable access to educational resources for Spanish-speaking members of our community.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Act as a liaison between Spanish-speaking families and the school district, fostering positive relationships and promoting active engagement in the educational journey.
  • Facilitate communication between school staff and Spanish-speaking parents to ensure a clear understanding of educational processes and opportunities.
  • Provide language support to Spanish-speaking students and families, including interpretation & translation services during meetings, conferences, and other school-related events.
  • Assist in the development and distribution of bilingual materials to enhance communication i.e. Support schools with translations with school-related communications.
  • Guide Spanish-speaking families in navigating educational resources, services, and support systems available within the school district and the broader community.
  • Collaborate with school staff to ensure equitable access to academic and extracurricular opportunities.
  • Monitor and address attendance concerns for Spanish-speaking students, collaborating with teachers and administrators to implement strategies for improved attendance.
  • Support academic success by connecting students and families with appropriate resources, tutoring services, and enrichment programs.

ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

  • Work alongside administrators, teachers, and parents and interpret IEPs, MDTs, 504 planning meetings, and other school-related meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with all students, staff, parents, and community partners.
  • Address student, parent, and community questions and concerns as appropriate.
  • Escalate Spanish speaking parents’ concerns to the appropriate school professional.
  • Support home visits with other district staff members.
  •  Performs other related duties assigned by the supervisor aligned to interpreting and communicating.    

 

Travel:  Limited travel may be required.



REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum Two (2) years of college coursework completed
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Fluently bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Must be able to communicate fluently orally and in written form in English and the language as specified in the job title.
  • Must exhibit skills pertinent to positive human relations and the ability to work effectively with principals, curriculum specialists, teachers, office staff, students, parents, administrators, businesses, post-secondary institutions, and community agencies.
  • Ability to assist with the administration of the Language Assessment screener (ELPA21 Screener), as needed.
  • Skills in organization, time management, communication, and positive interpersonal skills.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance.
